What can I expect at my first visit?

If you have downloaded and filled out the intake paperwork from this website there will be more time for treatment during your first visit. Otherwise, please arrive a few minutes before your scheduled appointment to complete these forms. I will go over this information with you and ask additional questions to get a detailed medical history and a holistic view of your overall health.

Depending on your condition, I may examine your pulses and your tongue. The information gained from these techniques can provide vital information in forming your diagnosis. I may also take your blood pressure or do orthopedic tests.

Once I have determined a treatment plan you will lie on a comfortable treatment table. Bolsters or pillows are used to provide a relaxed position. Depending on the acupuncture points being used you may need to remove some clothing and put on a gown. The rooms are kept at a comfortable temperature with soothing music.

Most treatments consist of 8-16 needles that are left in place for 20 to 40 minutes. I generally incorporate message or CranioSacral therapy into the session. It is common for patients to become very relaxed and even fall asleep while on the table.

I work slowly with patients new to acupuncture in order to alleviate any uncertainty or concerns. Please make sure that all your questions are answered completely and if there is anything that you do not understand please ask for clarification.
